I had a terrible fill on REW the other day. There were quotes, volume, bids, I placed a market order, took 14 minutes to fill. Broker told me the market for REW wasnt' open.???? Then how can you quote it?

Well, that was yesterday. Today (Tuesday), FXP is at 88 or so. Ouch.

It happened to me just the other day with shares of ROM, the 2X long tech ETF. The market opened weak, and once I had my proprietary signal in place, I entered a market order for 1000 shares. The best bid and best ask were far apart and I expected to be filled at 54 or so, the then best ask. Much later, about 15 minutes later, I was filled at 54.52. I have complained to E*Trade but, so far, all they have done is lie to me. They told me the AMEX had a delayed opening. Not true... I called to confirm it wasn't so. My market order should have been matched off against the best ask immediately. Oh well... I too, new better than to use a market order. Won't do it again.

I have never seen an odd lot print to the consolidated tape. The only way it would print is if it was filled with another odd lot (34 shares and 66 shares for example).

I believe there is some surcharge the specialist might charge for odd lots, but it would not be the crazy amount you overpaid.

I think this was a , ahem , mistake. You were not so smart to use a market order but smart to complain and get it adjusted.

I never use market orders, as they are not needed. If you want to overpay, just add 20 or 30 cents to the offer price and send a limit order. Limits the amount of games they will play.
